Denver Comic Con and Literary Conference (DCC), a program of Comic Book Classroom (CBC) designed to help promote literacy through pop culture, today announced Karen Gillan as a guest the 2014 convention. Gillan will be appearing in Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy later this summer and is best known as Amy Pond, the Doctors companion in Doctor Who.
DCCs Doctor Who programming also includes multiple panel sessions, as well as writers, crew members and additional celebrity guestsincluding previously announced Sylvester McCoy, the seventh Doctor and Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor.
With the number and quality of Who guests and panels, DCC is essentially featuring a ‘Doctor Who’ convention within the conventionin fact, its going to be one of the largest in the country, said Bruce MacIntosh, CBC chairman and director of DCC programming. The show is so popular that weve tripled the number of panels each year. In 2014, were going to have over 25 hours of programming about the various characters and elements of the showand that doesnt even count the standing-room only Q&A sessions in our massive Main Events Halls with the Doctor Who guests.
In addition to DCC guests and programming, Comcast Xfinity is partnering with BBC America at the convention and will have Doctor Who-related themes, prize packs and other giveaways.
Additionally, along with activities and surprise guest appearances, the 8,000-square foot Comic Book Classroom Corral area on the show floor will feature Doctor Who crafting and other surprises for kids and teens.

Karen Gillan From 2010 to 2013 Gillan played Amy Pond, The Girl Who Waits and companion to Smiths Doctor on Doctor Who. The Scottish actress will be appearing in the upcoming Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy as well as The List, and has the lead role in Selfie, an upcoming ABC pilot that is a modern re-telling of the My Fair Lady story.
Peter Davison Davison played the fifth Doctor from 1981 to 1984. He has since returned several times to the world of Doctor Who. In 1993 he appeared as the fifth Doctor in “Dimensions in Time as part of the BBC’s annual Children in Need Charity drive, and in 1985 he narrated an abridged novelization of “Warriors of the Deep” for BBC Worldwide’s Doctor Who audio book series. Most recently, Davison has had recurring roles in Law & Order: UK, Pat & Cabbage and Inspector Lewis.
Sylvester McCoy As a comic act and busker McCoy appeared regularly on stage and on the BBC in the 1970s and 80s. In 1987 he became the seventh doctor in the in Doctor Who. McCoy is also known for his recent work as the wizard Radagast the Brown in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.
