Recently, an increasing number of people are coming to realize that you can still enjoy modern amenities whilst benefiting from the the independence of off grid living. Being ‘off the grid’ is exactly what it says – no power lines, no electric bills, and being free of utility bills, which, as we all know, means being away from their ever-increasing rates – a pleasant thought indeed.
Off grid living is environmentally friendly and cost effective way to run your home and it is most definitely an option available to almost any homeowner.
The principles of off grid living can easily be applied to any home wherever you are the world, even to those of us currently tied to the grid. From solar panels and windmills, there is rapidly growing interest in living off grid and escaping the more traditional fuel generating methods such as the fossil fuel burning power plants.
Technologies in wind and solar have advanced enormously and the really great point to make here is that the costs are amazingly cheap.
With a little know-how and dedication along with quality resources and manuals, going off grid is a definite reality for all of us. As energy demands continue to increase globally, those living off grid can rest easy knowing their own energy costs are quite literally a thing of the past.
The concept of off grid living can be a little daunting to those who believe they may have to give up some of their favourite electronic gadgets to achieve such freedom. However, this is absolutely not the case. By moving off grid and generating your own self sustaining power at home, you can continue to comfortably carry on life as usual provided the unit you build is adequate to sustain your requirements.
The chances are, you’ll be generating hundreds of hours worth of electricity and eventually you will no doubt forget how you’re even managing it!
Wanting to become part of the Off Grid Living adventure, doesn’t always mean giving up everything, sometimes it just means getting smarter about the things you have and the way you work.
Hopefully, by now, you will have some thoughts and ideas about off grid living and realize the benefits. It truly is a possibility for all of us to leave the over priced, greedy energy companies behind and start generating our own FREE electricity from home.
Keith aka Skeeter is living totally off the grid. Starting with a raw plot of land, he built his house from scratch, dug a well, created a solar power system and is completely responsible for all his waste. Keith is a good example of someone who got tired of paying utilities and mortgages to live on earth. He took matters into his own hands and decided to be as independent as possible. Deciding to live out in the wilderness is one way to go off the grid. We’ll be exploring other ways of being independent in urban environments in some of our next posts. Thanks Keith!
