US Fair Trade Fashion Company Wins Major Global Award

London (PRWEB) December 20, 2013

A leading California company with a strong sense of social responsibility has won the Womenswear Category at this years Source Awards. These awards, sponsored by The Ethical Fashion Forum, are given to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of companies which show leadership in supporting fair trade, eco products and great fashion.

Indigenous, the global winner of the Womenswear Category, creates clothing and accessories for men and women using organic cotton, alpaca, silk and soft merino wool and dyes that are environmentally friendly. Over 1500 artisans in South America work with these materials using skills passed down through generations to create beautiful contemporary fashions for a growing western mass market.

Indigenous founders, Scott Leonard and Matt Reynolds, admired the culture, the workmanship and ancient materials they found in rural areas of South America but abhorred the poverty they saw. They decided to help the local artisans receive international exposure by bringing this hidden world of fashion to a much larger market and provide a decent wage for the artisans and their families. They also wanted to build a professional brand that can produce and sell clothing that does not harm people or the planet. In 1994 they started a small company by organizing a few womens knitting groups to produce sweaters. Today through their partnership with eight such co-ops, Indigenous has grown to support over 1500 artisans. Their fashions are available in America, Canada, and Japan in specialty stores under their own label, and in major chains under other brand labels as well as online at

While Indigenous has been busy transforming lives through its business, it has become a role model for other eco-companies wanting to protect the environment and honour their workers. It is either a founding member or is deeply involved in many councils and working groups in this field.

The Source Awards were announced on Tuesday, December 3rd at a special event hosted by Baroness Lola Young, OBE and Founder of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Ethics and Sustainability at the House of Lords in London to fashion industry representatives at the House of Lords in London.

The Ethical Fashion Forum is the fashion industrys own initiative, founded to support and promote sustainable practices, protect the planet, and counter exploitation such as we witnessed early this year in Bangladesh. To date the EFF has over 8000 members in 127 countries. Winners were selected by an illustrious judging panel including Dolly Jones, editor of, Brigitte Steppittus, Head of Couture at Vivienne Westwood, Summer Rayne Oakes, social activist, eco-model and co-founder of Source4Style, and Amber Valletta, American supermodel and spokesperson for sustainable fashion.

Water and Gas Supply Needs Drives Demand for Continuous Welded Pipes and Tubes, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) February 13, 2013

Follow us on LinkedIn As the dynamics of the steel pipes and industry are closely linked to the trends in the construction, oil and gas, and infrastructure development projects, prevailing economic conditions play a major role in determining the pace and extent of demand for steel pipes and tubes. While the year 2011 registered strong demand for steel pipes and tubes globally, growth slowed down in early 2012 due to reduced orders from construction, automotive, and mechanical engineering sectors although energy sector registered strong rise in demand for steel tubes. Manufacturers offering tubes for grid-bound media transports market are likely to benefit from long-term measures for providing water and energy supply.

Continuous welded pipes, referring to small diameter products manufactured using continuous welding process, are primarily utilized for supply of water and gas at lower costs and higher productivity. Continuous welded pipes are considered as the lowest cost variants among all steel pipes, and find use in structural applications, plumbing applications, and other low pressure applications. Mills involved in producing continuous butt welded pipes are generally specialists in manufacturing on a mass scale, primarily to address the needs of gas and water supply. In these applications, low cost and high productivity hold huge significance. Over the years, changing scenario in the general piping markets has led to a slowdown in the production of continuous butt welded pipes. This has raised the demand for improving quality as well as cost to address newer market segments. Focus is also on the development of multi-functional pipe products that facilitate in protecting the environment. Efforts in these areas have led to the development of low-temperature butt welding technology, while process mechanization is enabling improvement in manpower efficiency.

As stated by the new market research report on Continuous Welded Pipes and Tubes, rapid increase in infrastructure facilities across the emerging markets is propelling demand for continuous steel pipes and tubes. Asia-Pacific represents the largest market for continuous welded pipes and tubes. With rapid population growth, particularly across developing regions, many cities are facing over burdening infrastructure demand. With the existing water systems unable to meet the requirements of the rising urban growth, demand for water-transmission pipes is rising rapidly as cities build their systems. Within Asia-Pacific, India and China are lucrative markets given the huge investments being pumped into infrastructure development and water and gas pipeline construction activity. India is witnessing continuous rise in investments from public and private sectors for the development of pipeline infrastructure to supply water supply and to address needs of the irrigation sector.

Global market for steel pipes and tubes is highly fragmented and intensely competitive. Major players profiled in the report include ChelPipe, JFE Steel Corporation, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, and Wheatland Tube Company.

The research report titled Continuous Welded Pipes and Tubes: A Global Strategic Business Report announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive review of market trends, issues, drivers, company profiles, mergers, acquisitions and other strategic industry activities. The report provides market estimates and projections for all major geographic markets such as the US, Canada, Japan, Europe (France, Germany, Italy, UK, Spain, Russia and Rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (China and Rest of Asia-Pacific), Middle East, and Latin America.

Increasing Focus on Efficient Power Distribution Drives the Global Market for Fuses and Circuit Breakers, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) February 06, 2013

Follow us on LinkedIn As an important part of the power protection devices industry, fuses and circuit breakers assume critical importance in protecting the electrical and electronic equipment from unexpected power fluctuations resulting from overvoltages, overload, ground faults and short circuits. Increasing focus on efficient power transmission and distribution is the principal factor propelling demand for fuses and circuit breakers worldwide. Additionally, the market, over the past decade has been riding high on the burgeoning adoption of electronic and electric equipment all of which warrant the use of protection devices such as fuses and circuit breakers. Another key factor projected to fuel growth in the market is the growing demand from emerging economies, which are currently in the forefront of establishing new energy infrastructure.

In this regard, as the slowdown of the BRIC countries highlights the popping of the BRIC bubble, CIVETS countries are poised to emerge as the next cluster of developing markets to turbo-charge future growth in the market. The encouraging performance of CIVETS in the first half of 2012, which largely outpaced economic performance in BRICs, is further infusing optimistic hope on the regions future potential. Countries in this region for instance, require huge amounts of energy to power the rapid industrialization underway and environmental regulations introduced or about to be implemented will influence the need for more efficient power distribution and transmission equipment. Rapid expansion in commercial building and residential units in these countries is also creating new opportunities in this space.

Demand stands threatened by the still unresolved threat of sequestration cuts in the United States, which flaunts the potential to impact all end-user industries ranging from energy/utilities, automobiles, industrial machinery to construction and electronic equipment. The sequestration cuts can reduce the government budgets for energy programs and infrastructure, leading to possible rejection of energy policy proposals. Also, increased taxes can reduce corporate CAPEX spending in industrial machinery and consumer spending on consumer durables like automobiles. In Europe, the ongoing debt crisis is already impacting demand. The weak residential and non-residential construction industry in Europe, which has shrunk by over 30% and 18% respectively from the peak witnessed in the year 2006, is impacting demand for fuses and circuit breakers used in household circuits.

Reduced political focus of cash strapped European governments on renewable energy will also indirectly impact demand for circuit breakers for high voltage direct current (HVDC) used in protecting the transmission system. Mirroring reduced commitment for renewables is the lack of commitment displayed by European countries like France, Italy, and Spain for the Desertec project founded in the year 2009. Reduced willingness of European countries to construct these power stations halves the future market potential of circuit breakers in the energy sector. Although, grid integration (i.e. pan-European grid) and energy infrastructure reforms represent key to Europes energy sustainability in the future, the immediate financial challenges will continue to affect Europes ability to Think Big in balancing the fluctuating stability of its renewables.

Additionally, the cooling down of Chinas GDP growth is impacting demand for fuses and circuit breakers in industrial machinery. The growing clout of the Chinese manufacturing industry can be put into sharp relief by the fact that the country currently accounts for over 22% of the worlds economic output. Industrial output in the country is the second largest in the world and accounts for over 49% of the countrys GDP, illustrating the countrys industrial prowess. With its economic might resting on export-oriented manufacturing and industrialization, the slowdown in exports to United States and Europe is hurting the countrys manufacturing sector. There also exist fears that in the long-term the Chinese manufacturing growth will bottom out as a result of the imminent bursting of its manufacturing bubble as a result of rising labor costs and growing production time lags and planned tightening of the countrys foreign investment policy.

As stated by the new market research report, the US accounts for a major share of the global Fuses and Circuit Breakers market. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest growing regional market, largely backed by sustained demand from key end-use industries in burgeoning developing economies. By product, Circuit Breakers represent the largest as well as the fastest growing segment. Revenues from the segment are projected to wax at a CAGR of 6.6% over the analysis period.

Major players in the global marketplace include ABB Limited, Alstom S.A, Automation Systems Interconnect, AVX Corporation, Bel Fuse Inc., Bentek Inc., Bourns, Inc., Carling Technologies, Inc., EPCOS AG, Eaton Corporation, E-T-A Elektrotechnische Apparate GmbH, Fuji Electric FA Components & Systems Co., Ltd., General Electric Company, Hitachi Ltd., Legrand S.A, Littelfuse, Inc., Mersen SA, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Schneider Electric SA,SCHURTER AG, Sensata Technologies Inc., Siemens AG, TE Connectivity Ltd., and Vicor Corporation, among others.

The research report titled Fuses and Circuit Breakers: A Global Strategic Business Report announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of market trends, issues, drivers, company profiles, mergers, acquisitions and other strategic industry activities. The report provides market estimates and projections (US$ ) for major geographic markets including the US, Canada, Japan, Europe, AsiaPacific (excluding Japan), Middle East and Latin America. Key segments analyzed include Fuses, and Circuit Breakers.

Food Processing and Sanitation Industries Drive the Industrial and Institutional Cleaning Products Market, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 24, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn Industrial and institutional (I&I) cleaning products market has transformed enormously with changing requirements and standards, establishment of different regulations across the globe and emergence of various industries, which stipulate specific hygiene requirements. Over the last decade, the market went through a major makeover with respect to the type of cleaning products and equipment used, mode of application and chemical compositions. Todays I&I space offers more application specific chemicals and is driven towards environment and social safety. Even packaging and dispensing equipment used along with cleaning agents have changed both in their functional properties and appearance. End-users include myriad industries such as manufacturing units, food & lodging, building service contractors, food & drinks processing units, retail, healthcare and others commercial facilities. However, the needs and specification for cleaning products used by these industries differ vastly. Products intended for use by building cleaning contractors may include those for cleaning soiled floors, carpet, restrooms, window glasses and furniture. With customer inclination towards effective, eco-friendly and less labor-intensive products, manufacturers will have to incorporate radical changes in product design, development and marketing strategy.

Industrial and Institutional Cleaning Products is a mature market, primarily in the western world. Therefore, there are numerous active participants in the market, some with a global presence while others are active in the regional spheres. The US market alone has over hundred active players in the industry. With increased opportunities and broader applications, big distributors have created their own niche by introducing private label cleaning products. In addition, a few giant retailers such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot are providing stiff competition to I&I producers, by offering increased shelf-space to private label cleaning supplies. Product differentiation has been a winning strategy to gain recognition and market share. Among other conventional methods of product differentiation, branding is the most favored one. Product features such as compatibility with environment, mildness, safety and multidimensional application are the decisive factors.

Sanitation and Janitorial Cleaners are positioned globally as the leading category within the industrial and institutional cleaning products market. These cleaners are primarily used for housekeeping purposes in various industries and institutions. Growing need to maintain clean and hygienic surroundings amplified the demand for disinfectants, sanitizers and other household and industrial and institutional cleaners. Hydrocarbon solvent-based and chlorinated cleaners are likely to regress, on account of increased environmental concerns and tightened regulations. Lately, a spurt in demand for biocides was seen as the green trend caught on with the consumers. Disease outbreaks as a consequence of poor hygiene and sanitization practices increased demand for I&I cleaners in facilities that handle and serve food products.

Food and Dairy Processing Cleaners are primed to grow at a robust pace through 2018, propelled by the need for high performance cleaning and hygiene agents. Certain specialized cleaners such as sanitizers and degreasers that aim at removing stubborn grease and stains and cleaners with high efficiency at both low and high temperatures are widely used in the food service industry. Augmented concerns towards prevention of cross contamination from soiled cooking platforms, utensils and accessories, in addition to hazardous food bacteria such as E. coli, would drive market demand.

North America and Europe dominates the I&I cleaning products market, collectively accounting for a massive chunk of the global market, as stated by the new market research report on Industrial and Institutional Cleaning Products. Both regional markets comprise small and large producers as well as handful of niche players. Although, both regional markets are mature, growth is expected through emerging sectors such as building service contractors and innovative applications in other end-use sectors. Economic growth in Eastern Europe and heightened hygiene standards are providing lucrative platform for applications of sanitation and janitorial cleaning products. Asia-Pacific, ranked as the highest populated region, is rapidly becoming one of the most dynamic markets for industrial and institutional cleaning products. The region is forecast to race ahead at a sturdy CAGR of 7.6% through 2018, spurred by dynamic activity in markets of Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, and Thailand.

The worldwide I&I cleaning chemicals market is highly fragmented with existence of large number of global and regional players. However, a handful of players have a dominant presence in worldwide market. Key players profiled in the report include 3M Company, Arrow-Magnolia International, Inc., Avmor, Church & Dwight Co., Inc., The ArmaKleen Company, BASF Care Chemicals, Croda International Plc, Diversey, Inc., DuBois Chemicals, Ecolab, Inc., Guardian Chemicals, Inc., GOJO Industries, Inc., Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, Kao Corporation, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Lion Corporation, Lonza Group Ltd., National Chemical Laboratories, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser Plc, Spartan Chemical Co., and Zep Inc., among several others.

The research report titled Industrial and Institutional Cleaning Products: A Global Strategic Business Report announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive market overview, current market trends, key growth drivers, recent industry activity, and profiles of major/niche global market participants. The report provides annual sales estimates and projections in value (US$ million) terms for geographic markets including, US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Rest of World. Key product segments analyzed include Sanitation and Janitorial Cleaners; Industrial/ Technical Cleaners; Kitchen and Catering Cleaning Agents; Food and Dairy Processing Cleaners; Laundry Agents; and Other Cleaners. The report also analyzes the market by end-use segments including Industrial; Food and Lodging; Building Service Contractors; Food and Drinks Processing Units; Retail Outlets; Healthcare Facilities; and Others. The study provides historic data for an insight into market evolution over the period 2004 through 2009.

Global Spa & Wellness Summit Announces 2012 Student Challenge Winners

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 26, 2012

The Global Spa & Wellness Summit (GSWS), the premier annual event for spa and wellness industry leaders, today announced the winners of its fourth annual Spa of the Future Student Challenge Competition. Top honors went to the University of Denver for its creative Power Spa for teen girls, while Cornell University, the University of Houston and Penn State University received second and third place awards respectively.

The 2012 Summit, with its theme Innovation through Imagination, was held in collaboration with The Aspen Institute, and the student teams presented their designs to hundreds of industry executives gathered at the prestigious think-tank this June. Previous Challenge winners include Paris Institute de Management Hotelier International (2009), the University of Southern California (2010) and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2011).

Each year leading universities submit designs for the most innovative and potentially profitable spa of the future, competing for cash prizes and global industry recognition. Student teams are responsible for developing all the conceptual and financial details of their project, and are then assigned a professional architect to bring their ideas to life.

Standing Ovation for University of Denvers Defiant! Spa

Not only first prize, but a standing ovation, went to the University of Denvers Defiant!, a spa that rejects the typical pampering-patronizing-pink-and-sparkly-manicure teen spa model to tackle the emotional, physical and social needs of real girls. Cornell Universitys mente spa & studio, which reimagines the loud, exclusively body-focused gym as a sanctuary of social and intellectual engagement, took second place honors. Penn State Universitys greenhouse concept, marrying intense sustainability practices with a southern hospitality approach, and the University of Houstons ModerNature social spa, revolving around principles from the Slow Movement, tied for third.

The judges were floored by the quality, detail and creativity in each schools submission, with many observing these students delivered more innovative, thoughtful business plans than most professional consultants do, said Cornell Professor Mary Tabacchi, co-coordinator of the Student Challenge. Numerous delegates said they would employ these students in a heartbeat.

Sue Harmsworth, Challenge co-coordinator and CEO & Founder of ESPA International also noted, Given that a major research report just released at the Summit* revealed that there is a serious industry talent gap, with far more jobs for well-educated spa operators and managers than can be filled, these, and other extraordinary students worldwide now pursuing careers in this industry, have very bright futures ahead.

Hot-button issues explored at the 2012 Summit included the need for spas to more aggressively address mental wellness; to reach younger people (where lifelong health habits are formed); to embrace new technologies that can forge ongoing, supportive client connections; and bolder sustainability practices – all of which, interestingly, were key elements of the winning student projects.

Sponsors: Student prizes, airfare, accommodations and conference registration fees were generously underwritten by renowned destination spa, Chiva Som; hotel powerhouses, Hyatt and Four Seasons; leading spa manufacturer KLAFS; and iconic hotel and travel adventure company, Orient Express.

Judges: Thanisr Chaturongkul, CFO, Chiva Som; Adrian Egger, Managing Director, Spa Division, KLAFS; Christopher Norton, Chair, Global Spa Task Force, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and Niamh O’Connell, VP, Spa Operations, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts comprised the expert panel of judges.

2012 Spa of the Future Winners:

1st Place: University of Denver ($ 1,000USD prize)

Student team: Lian Duan, Molly Tompkins, Jing Wan

Faculty Advisor: Dr. Cherri Young

Partner Architect: Cameron Zentz, Director, HBA Architects

The Concept – Defiant!

30% of U.S. spas may offer teen treatments, but usually as an afterthought, and often with a cutesy, bubble-gum vibe. Defiant! takes a defiantly new approach, dedicated to helping todays independent, stressed-out, body-conscious teen girls become mentally and physically confident. Designed as a girls Fourth Place (not home, school, the mall), self-care, self-acceptance and support (from the all-female staff) play starring roles.

Swiping her D-Life card at Debut (the reception desk) girls enter a fun, high-tech, social place. They can hang out in Daydream, the pillow- and iPad-packed central lounge, where they can order from the healthy caf
